How Nigerian TikTok Creators Can Set Up Comment Filters
TikTok comment filters help you decide who can comment, hide likely spam or offensive material, block selected keywords and review comments before they appear. For a Nigerian creator or business account, the best setup is not the strictest possible setup. It is the one that reduces obvious disruption without hiding genuine questions and useful criticism.
Start by separating two decisions: who may comment, and which comments should be filtered. Turning comments off is different from leaving comments open with a review layer.
Choose who can comment
TikTok's current help guidance says public accounts can choose Everyone, while private accounts can choose Followers. Accounts can also choose Friends, meaning followers they follow back. Age-based restrictions may change the available options.
To review the account-wide setting, open Profile, tap the menu, choose Settings and privacy, then Privacy and Comments. Open Allow comments from and select the audience that fits the account.
A public business that answers product questions may need broader access. A creator dealing with coordinated harassment may temporarily choose a smaller audience. Make the choice for an identifiable reason rather than copying another account's settings.
Control comments on individual posts
You can turn comments on or off for a particular post. Before publishing, open the additional options on the final Post screen and adjust Allow comments. For an existing post, open the post, choose its options, enter Privacy settings and change the comment setting.
Post-level control is useful when one video covers a sensitive announcement, features a minor, or attracts discussion the team cannot monitor. It does not require closing comments on every other post.
Understand the available filters
TikTok currently documents several comment-filter options:
- Filter all comments: hides comments until you approve them. TikTok notes that this option is not available to everyone.
- Creator Care Mode: hides comments TikTok identifies as inappropriate, offensive or profane, as well as comments similar to material previously reported, deleted or disliked.
- Filter unwanted comments: hides recent comments that may be offensive or spam.
- Keyword filtering: hides comments containing words or phrases you add.
These tools support moderation, but they are not perfect. A harmless comment can be filtered, and a harmful comment can avoid a filter. Review remains necessary.
Build a careful keyword list
Begin with repeated patterns you have actually seen. Useful categories can include scam phrases, impersonation wording, repeated external promotions and variations of a slur directed at the creator. Keep any sensitive list private.
Avoid adding a broad word merely because one bad comment contained it. A skincare business that blocks the word “price” could hide genuine buying questions. A music creator who blocks every mention of another artist could lose normal discussion. Prefer specific phrases and review their effect.

Check common misspellings and spacing variations only when they are actually used to bypass a filter. Do not turn the list into a collection of every negative word. Legitimate disagreement is different from abuse, spam or deception.
Turn on the filters you need
From Profile, open the menu, then Settings and privacy, Privacy and Comments. Under the comment-filter section, enable the relevant options. For keyword filtering, open the keyword area, enable the setting and add the selected words or phrases.
Interface labels and availability can change. Use TikTok's current Manage comments help page alongside the settings visible in your app.
Review the filtered queue
In the Comments settings, open Review filtered comments. TikTok lets you approve or delete each reviewed comment. Approve a genuine question or harmless comment that the filter caught. Delete spam, impersonation attempts or material that breaks the account's moderation rules.

Do not leave the queue untouched for weeks. A delayed approval can make a useful customer answer irrelevant. Set a review rhythm that matches the account's posting volume: after a new post, once later that day, and at a reasonable interval afterwards.
Write a short moderation rule
A creator working alone can use three lines. A team may need a slightly longer note. Define what is approved, what is deleted and what is escalated. For example:
- Approve relevant questions, respectful disagreement and ordinary feedback.
- Delete repeated spam, impersonation, threats and exposed private information.
- Save evidence and escalate credible threats or coordinated abuse through the appropriate reporting route.
Do not argue publicly with every removed commenter. Moderation should protect the discussion, not create a second performance around the abuse.
Check whether the filter is too broad
After one week, look for useful comments repeatedly caught by the same word. Narrow or remove a keyword that creates too many false positives. If one spam phrase keeps returning in new forms, update the phrase carefully instead of blocking ordinary vocabulary.
Keep a dated note of major changes. If the team suddenly notices fewer customer questions, it can check whether a recent filter caused the change.
Handle private information without repeating it
A filtered comment may expose a phone number, address, order detail or another person's private information. Do not approve it simply because the writer appears to be a genuine customer. Move the conversation to the business's normal private support route and delete the public comment where appropriate.
If a comment contains a threat, fraud attempt or evidence needed for a report, preserve only the necessary evidence in a controlled location before deleting or reporting it. Limit access to the people responsible for the response. A moderation archive should not become a second public copy of the harmful material.
Keep moderation separate from promotion
Comment filters manage discussion. They do not improve the quality of a video or guarantee reach. Purchased engagement should never be used to drown out criticism, imitate customer support or make a moderated discussion look organic.
After the comment system is manageable and the content is ready, you may review relevant current options on the Cloutingo services page. Read the exact service description and the Cloutingo terms because audiences, delivery and conditions differ. If the selected service fits a legitimate campaign goal, use the verified sign-up page to manage the order. A healthy account needs both useful content and a comment policy that leaves room for real people to speak.
